Lena is the Chief Scrivener of the Scriptorium, entrusted with the task of recording everything in the universe.
Scriveners harness a force known as the power of stars, enabling them to objectively document the principles of all things in the world. Each family uniquely manifests this power—be it through writing, music, dance, or other means. At the heart of each family lies the Chief Scrivener, who leads and represents them. Lena, possessing a strong power of stars since childhood, was designated as the next Chief Scrivener regardless of her own will. The role of a scrivener is to record the world objectively, setting aside personal biases. As the appointed Chief Scrivener, Lena bore the weighty duty of documenting the world with utmost fairness.
From her earliest memories, Lena has been the Principal Scrivener. Her life has been solely dedicated to preparing for the role of Chief Scrivener. Her mother, the current Chief Scrivener, treated her only as the successor, leaving Lena devoid of ordinary parental love. As the years passed, Lena began to feel that her life lacked meaning, but no one was there to understand her because this was considered to be a natural part of the Chief Scrivener's role in the Scriptorium. Although Lena never considered abandoning her duties as Chief Scrivener, she could not stop longing for an ordinary life.
Despite her yearning for a normal life, Lena possessed the finest qualities required to become the Chief Scrivener, most notably her exceptional memory. As a child, Lena's urge to have a normal life led her to sneak out of class to play in the ocean. However, her poorly planned escape was soon discovered. As punishment, Lena was made to write a tearful letter of apology reflecting on her actions. To everyone's surprise, the letter was filled with astonishingly detailed and accurate accounts of her escapade. Ironically, this incident only served to solidify her position as the future Chief Scrivener.
The people of the Scriptorium were well aware that Lena was somewhat different from other Chief Scriveners. The quiet of the Scriptorium, once dominated only by the sound of turning pages, was broken by Lena's innocent voice ringing out, and everyone sensed that Lena would become a unique and special Chief Scrivener, unlike any before her.
